Bytes are a unit of measurement to measure memory in a computer. The comparison of grams to kilograms looks something like this:
1 kilograms = 1000 grams
a. A ratio of comparison can be set up as follows:
1 kilograms x kilograms
_________ = ___________
1000 grams 3000 grams
Now cross multiply and solve for x:
3000 = 1000 x
3 = x
3000 grams = 3 kilograms

b. To solve this, the relationship between a kilobyte and a megabyte must be solved; more precisely, the relationship between the kilo and mega factors. Kilo is 10 3 and mega is 10 6. That is a difference of three powers of 10 or 10 3.
1 x 10 6 mega
_____________ = 1 x 10 3
1 x 10 3 kilo
From this ratio, we can see that there is a difference of three powers of 10, and since mega is larger than
kilo, there must be 1000 (three places) kilobytes for every megabyte.
1 megabyte = 1000 kilobytes
Now the second ratio of comparison can be set up for this question:
